Collect Secret Shows were started to create intimate moments with music and community and our 5th installment was exactly that. Set in the beautiful space of the Terrain Gallery downtown and Documented by Sean Finley of This Had Better Be Good Films and Brandon Vasquez. We now have the evening immortalized for you all to recount and re-experience.

We kicked off the night with the ambient modular synth stylings of Conflux.redux. Chelsea Hendrickson and her husband Tobias are the masterminds behind Tech Tax, a program that builds community and education around Modular Synthesis. They each have their own musical projects and Chelsea’s is made up of soundscapes sampled from real life experiences.

Tyler Alai graced us with her moody soulful tunes second. Tyler is a Hawaii born songwriter but has made her home in Spokane for the past few years. She can be found around town playing with a full band and collaborating with lots of different types of local musicians.

Lastly, Ings took the “stage”. Her performance was barely above a whisper which made it feel like it was the first time in a while I truly had to listen and stay focused during a performance. It was invigorating and calming. Ings had just released her new album Lullaby Rock two days before and we were able to capture her full “Best Friend Meditation” and the song that pairs with it, “Amelia”. It occurred to me how rare it is to sit in a room silent with a group of people. It felt important to a lot of people to have that space and encouragement to focus on something beautiful. Some tears graced the floor of the Terrain gallery during this meditation to be sure.

Credits and thank yous: I made the backdrop 🙂 with the help of Claire Fieberg, Caleb Ingersoll ran sound and lighting, Terrain hosted us in their beautiful gallery, Melissa Landrus helped organize and million thanks to the musicians for offering their talents and Brandon and Sean for capturing such a great night.
