Creator of the Spokane 50 project, photographer, organizer and all around Spokane lover, Marshall has concocted a pretty exciting homegrown type festival in West Central. Porchfest brings together the arts and the community to celebrate in a very personal, intimate way. Musicians and poets have been selected and paired with West Central inhabitants to perform on porches throughout the neighborhood. Like a progressive dinner, but instead of food, you get to partake in art.

Porchfest takes place tomorrow, September, 13th in West Central from 3pm-7pm. All are welcome!

Everything about this event is geared toward strengthening the community. Marshall spoke to me early on in the planning of Porchfest about the new Kendall Yards development and wanting to do something that could empower the original population of people in the neighborhood. Giving them a chance to host and connect with new neighbors and take ownership over art happening in the community. Art is such a powerful connector! We should be jumping up and down in celebration that people in our city are using it to do just that.
