Since The Bing Crosby Theater has been under new ownership, they’ve been putting on events quite a bit more frequently. They also just installed a brand new sound system and will continue to be making improvements to the space. Movies, readings, local music, touring shows. Local promoter John Blakesley has been taking advantage of this and bringing some really great bands to town for a larger showcase at the Bing. He was responsible for Built To Spill a few months back and books the lineup at Elkfest.

This week at the Bing is an old timey explosion with Pokey Lafarge. A lot of you are probably unfamiliar with old time music because it’s kind of hard to find in Spokane and it’s obviously not a mainstream type of genre at all. But it is quite an underground indie subculture throughout the country of young folks preserving their musical forefather’s influence. Pokey Lafarge at times could be called more classic country but his music is definitely grown from American roots. For those of you more keen to pop culture, think “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” soundtrack. He’s just been signed to Jack White’s record label and after watching this video, I’m convinced his live performance will be a trip back in time.

Opening bands are locals Cursive Wires and Luke Pate. Tickets only $10 thru TicketsWest. ($2 historical preservation fee added to the price of each ticket)ALL AGES, Bar 21 and over w/ ID. RSVP and more info here.
