February is a bit of a tough month in the PNW. Winter feels like it’s dragging out for too long, the sun flits between clouds on warm days and then the sub-zero winds come back through the very next moment you blink and your eyes freeze shut. Emotions and the weather both feel interlocked in a bi-polar state, and I think a lot of people have been ‘feeling it’. Yet something I love about Spokane and the PNW is how we never stay indoors for too long. While February still has it’s share of coffee and book days, people still can’t stay inside for too long. Mountain sports like snowboarding and skiing, walks through Riverfront Park, pushing yourself with ski poles on your snowboard down the Spokane city streets (it happens, I just watched it out my window), snowshoeing, or just getting outside to shovel or build a snowman; Getting outside has to happen no matter the time of year, and we make it happen. Spokane might be ‘near nature, near Idaho’ but even in the longest month of the year it’s also still a little bit near perfect to me.
