Bartfest is just a couple days away! If you haven’t had a chance to check out the amazing bands playing, you still have some time. Head over to bartfest.com to see the lineup and grab tickets.

One of the bands I’m looking forward to the most at Bartfest is Hundred Waters. They are newer band on the indie circuit, forming in 2011 and have been met with rave reviews nationally especially since their album, “The Moon Rang Like a Bell”. Hailing from Florida, this group is comprised of childhood friends and seasoned lifetime musicians. They’ve each been in several other bands since grade school but finally hit their stride forming a band together as Hundred Waters. The most simple description I can offer of their music is “beautiful”. Lead singer, Nicole Miglis’ vocals are soft, simple and calming…like a comforting wind reminding you to slow down, listen, breath. The unique soundscapes and rhythms behind the melodies rely on the contrast between moments completely barren and swells into full dynamic movement with electronic beats, flute, piano, guitar and full drum kit.

The thing I most appreciate about what this band is doing is the restraint and experimentation in their music. It’s so rare these days to catch bands who aren’t shying away from slowing down the tempo, dropping out the instruments when appropriate and embracing drama through subtlety. It’s rare because it’s difficult and they pull it off with finesse and grace.

Catch Hundred Waters live this FRIDAY, September 5th at Nyne Bar as a part of Bartfest. Get tickets at Bartfest.com. Ticket prices range from $25 just to see Friday’s lineup at Nyne all the way to $90 for the whole weekend and 34 bands.
