This new Collect Session is the second time we’ve teamed up with the folks in the Spokane Film Project. And as you can see, we are going to do our best to keep them around. Setting up on Manito Blvd. at golden hour made for a beautiful autumn backdrop. Scott, our featured musician is a recent transplant to Spokane from the LA area. He’s my brother-in-law, a writer here at Collect and a fantastic musician.

After getting a degree in music and 10 years in LA music culture, it’s obvious that Scott isn’t a northwest musician. Where a lot of northwest musicians rely on style, basic music knowledge, gut emotion and affectation…Scott’s music relies more on skill, technique, writing strategy and professionalism. Neither are better or worse than the other but the contrast has been interesting for me to watch since I got to know him. I believe that diversity even on the music culture level is healthy and gives way to growth. I know I have learned from Scott’s perspective on life as a musician and I’m very interested and curious to see the ways that Spokane’s music culture rubs off on him as he goes into writing new tunes and forming a new band for his next release.

You can see Scott play this weekend (Nov. 1st at 9:30pm) at The Lantern in the Perry district with our last Collect Session performers, Moon Talk. You can also download the studio version of the song he performed for FREE on bandcamp. And follow him on facebook to check out future shows and releases. And lastly…follow Spokane Film Project if you haven’t yet. They have tons of other amazing things in the works besides these Sessions. You don’t want to miss out on what they are up to.
