As if the entrance into the summer season wasn’t already the best time of the year in Spokane, we now have TWO amazing music festivals right at the beginning of June. Elkfest and The Inlander’s Volume festival just announced their lineups for this year and things are looking awesome. Elkfest has been a really significant event in the local music scene for as long as I can remember. Like any music festival, it’s a chance to see some new bands and usually some local acts on a big stage. Dance parties almost always ensue and it’s of course nice that it’s free.

Volume is a new endeavor by The Inlander. They used to do a single concert at the Knitting Factory to celebrate the bands they choose each year as “bands to watch.” But last year they opened up the floodgates and invited a ton more bands in and created a festival/block part type of vibe. It was the craziest Spokane event I’ve ever been to. If this year is anything like last year, you will not want to miss it. It was one of the most local/communal feeling events jam packed with energy and excitement. This year they’ve expanded it to two days and added a list of regional/touring bands that look really fun. Campfire OK is one I’m particularly looking forward to.

Aside from my (obvious) excitement for Pickwick and Cave Singers, Aan could be a really fun band to see at Elkfest.

I’ll keep sifting through some of the bands on the lineups and share more info in the coming month. Mark your calendars for these awesome events!
